Behind the Story: Black Men, Mental Health & Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship often celebrates what people can see.
The business.The growth.The leadership.The visibility.The success.
But behind every entrepreneur is a person carrying the weight of the journey.
In this episode of Behind the Story, a Dream TV series from Digital REM, Chris travels to the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs in Atlanta for a men’s empowerment experience focused on an important conversation: the mental health and well-being of Black men entrepreneurs.
This was more than an event recap.
It was a look at the story surrounding the moment.
The Opportunity
Some rooms matter because of who is in them.
Others matter because of what the room gives people permission to talk about.
This experience created space for Black men entrepreneurs to gather, connect, reflect, and speak more openly about the realities that often sit behind business ownership and leadership.
For many entrepreneurs, the public story is centered on achievement. But the private story can include pressure, isolation, responsibility, uncertainty, and the emotional weight of building something while still carrying life, family, identity, and expectation.
That is why spaces like this matter.
They remind us that the person building the business matters too.
The Tension
The entrepreneurial journey is often framed around performance.
Build more.Scale faster.Lead stronger.Show up better.Keep going.
But that framing can leave very little room for the human side of leadership.
For Black men entrepreneurs especially, the pressure to appear strong, capable, and composed can make it harder to acknowledge when support, rest, conversation, or community is needed.
This event created a different kind of environment.
It centered connection, conversation, and well-being alongside ambition and business growth.
The Objective
For this episode of Dream TV, the goal was not simply to show that an event happened.
The goal was to bring viewers into the experience.
Chris takes the audience beyond the destination and into the journey: traveling to the event, meeting some of the people behind the experience, stepping inside the room, and reflecting on why conversations like this deserve to be seen.
The episode helps viewers understand the purpose behind the gathering and the importance of creating spaces where Black men can connect, speak openly, and support one another.
The Digital REM Approach
At Digital REM, we believe meaningful moments deserve more than surface-level coverage.
With Behind the Story, the focus is not only on the event itself. The focus is on the people, purpose, and conversations surrounding the moment.
For this episode, the approach centered on three priorities.
Human Context
We wanted to show the person behind the entrepreneurial journey, not only the business identity.
Purposeful Documentation
We captured the room, the environment, and the energy in a way that supported the deeper purpose of the experience.
Story Beyond the Event
We used the Dream TV format to move beyond recap content and create a more personal, observational look at why the moment mattered.
Why This Story Matters
Not every important story looks like a keynote, launch, or business milestone.
Sometimes the important story is the conversation people finally get to have.
This episode highlights a needed reminder: entrepreneurship is not only a professional journey. It is also a personal one.
The spaces that allow entrepreneurs to be seen as whole people are necessary. They create room for honesty, encouragement, support, and connection.
For Black men entrepreneurs, that kind of space can be especially meaningful.
Dream TV and Behind the Story
Behind the Story is a Dream TV series that takes viewers inside interesting rooms, meaningful experiences, and stories they might otherwise never see.
The series is built around curiosity, movement, and perspective.
It gives Digital REM a way to document not just what happened, but what surrounded the moment: the travel, the preparation, the people, the conversations, the emotion, and the meaning.
This episode continues that mission by bringing viewers into a room centered on empowerment, mental well-being, and community among Black men entrepreneurs.
The Result
The final episode gives viewers more than a recap of a men’s empowerment event.
It offers a window into a larger conversation about business, identity, pressure, support, and the need for meaningful community.
It also reflects the larger purpose of Dream TV: to make important rooms, real conversations, and human stories more visible.
Because some stories deserve to be documented not only for promotion, but for understanding.
Why This Matters for Digital REM
Digital REM exists to help make vision visible.
Sometimes that means documenting a business event, brand milestone, or client project.
Other times, it means using media to preserve conversations that matter.
This episode reflects the kind of storytelling we believe in: thoughtful, human, and connected to purpose.
The content is the artifact. The thinking is the asset. The opportunity is the outcome.
